The first step in our plan is to establish a designated launch area for students to launch their rockets into space. This launch area will be equipped with all the necessary facilities and safety measures to ensure a successful launch.
Create launch oppertunities for payloads, projects, and research
The second step is to create launch Opportunities for student payloads, projects, and research. This will allow students to gain hands-on experience in the space industry and contribute to the advancement of space technology.
Help students aquire rockets and design relevant missions
The final step is to help students acquire rockets and design relevant missions for their payloads. This will give students the opportunity to develop their technical skills and gain practical experience in launching rockets into space.
Skyline, an initiative by NORSTEC, tackles this by promoting domestic launch efforts and supporting ongoing work to establish launch sites across Norway among member organizations.
Skyline prioritizes that the ongoing efforts are developed with safety, reliability and repeatability in mind, and that the launch sites are accessible to all Norwegian student rocketry teams.
In 2024, a NORSTEC member successfully launched a rocket from private property in full compliance with civil airspace regulations. In the summer of 2025, UiS Aerospace received authorization and conducted a launch from Utsira, just outside Stavanger. Meanwhile, Porpulse NTNU obtained two launch approvals in 2025 and successfully launched during their second launch window in October.
By facilitating two rocket launches from different Norwegian locations in 2026, Skyline aims to create standardized procedures, making rocketry a more accessible and routine activity for students.
